Proofs, Galleys and Advance Reading Copies. There are versions of the story before the book is released. They may contain errors, only part of the story, or even a slightly different story. They are often very rare with only small numbers being produced, intended for in house use, reviewers , and some of the larger accounts , to gain interest in what is to come. They can be highly desirable to collectors, not only due to their small production numbers, but also the fact that many are defaced or destroyed by their recipients.

Produced by Doubleday for the original printing of the 1982 Hardcover of Magician, it is over a 1000 pages long. This proof is basically a photocopy, bound. It shows several edits in the authors own hand. It is also known that a copy of this proof was in the possession of Philip Jose Farmer, though for what purpose, is unknown. The exact number produced is unknown, but is believed to be very limited. |
