My influences, as I've said before, were the adventure writers of my boyhood and the historical novelists. In no particular order they were Harold Lamb, Rafael Sabatini, Sir Walter Scott, Mary Renault, Robert Louis Stevenson, Howard Pyle, Arthur Conan Doyle, Mark Twain, Tomas Costain, Alexandre Dumas (father and son), James A. Mitchner, and just about anyone else you can name who wrote a good book with an adventure element between 1950 and 1980.
