Amos isn't someone I'd consider particularly wise. He was experienced and practical, but made more than his share of bad choices along the way. The only character I'd label "wise" among the more prominent characters would be Father Tully and Nacoya. Everyone else had their moments, but in the main were imperfect, even flawed, people.
