How to handle Trolls on the Mailing List

On those rare occasions when someone appears on the list and posts what is commonly known as "flamebait," the standard response by members of the list is to ignore such posts. If you feel impelled to confront such an individual, please do so via private e-mail, rather than clutter up the list with responses; this is typically what such individuals are after. In extreme cases, the proper response is to forward particularly abusive, insulting, defamatory, or inciteful posts to "abuse@the offender's ISP."
If you feel the impulse to hit "respond" and post to the list, please resist the impulse."
