Oh, sure, especially when I was young.  Off the top of my head, I can  list E. C. Tubb's Dumarest, Poul Anderson's Dominic Flandry, Nicholas  Van Ringe, and David Falkane, Bertie Chandler's Commodore Grimes, Alan Dean Foster's Flinx, and Fritz Leiber's Fferd and the Gray Mouser.
