Why did Catherine marry Borric, when she really loved Guy?

From: Raymond E. Feist

Often in history, state dictated marriages were common. Catherine loved Guy, but her father (at the King's order) required her to entertain other suitors, then the King decided that it was in the Kingdom's best interest for her to marry Borric.  Her feelings had nothing to do with the decision.

So, the "letting Borric court her," is not an issue.  She had no choice.

She liked both men.  Over the years she came to love Borric, as Guy said she almost certainly had.
